Deltawave
Back to Products
Deltawave is an application developed to address the need to be able to hear the difference between two wav files. Often, where very small sonic changes are concerned (for example very small clicks, subtle processing or
watermarking effects) it is difficult to hear differences. Deltawave produces a 'Delta' wav file allowing only the differences to be heard. The two original files are first synchronized so that the audio content is in unison then a wav file is generated by differencing the audio data from the two files using the synchronizing offset. Of course, where one file is a copy of the original but with some form of processing added e.g. watermarking, the files will already be synchronized but the application is able to handle audio offsets of up to 10 seconds in either direction i.e. Ref file leading or Test file leading.
When played, either from within Deltawave or using other software, the resulting 'Delta' file will allow only
'sonic differences' to be heard. The gain of the Delta file can be set at zero resulting in differences being at their actual level or can be set in pre-determined dB steps or set to Auto. The Auto setting normalizes the file such that the highest level audio content is 1dB below 0dBFS.
The simple media player allows playing, pausing and jogging of the resulting Delta wav as well as any other wav format file.
Deltawave requires that the Ref and Test files be of the same sample rate and bit depth but all sample rates are supported up to and including 44.1kHz 16bit. For higher resolution, DSD and analogue audio comparison please see our WavecompPro and Audiocomp products, both of which produce Delta wav files as well as offering advanced comparison technology and features.
